    [UPDATED] GamingNow Ark Server Information

posted in Ark Game Servers on Friday, 01 April 2016

Introduction GAMINGNOW is currently running a primary server cluster featuring THREE different game servers (The Island, Scorched Earth and a special iteration of The Center) as well as a brand new modded Shigo Islands server running the Survival+ gameplay conversion mod. The first, [GAMINGNOW.NET] Ark Prime is the newest iteration of the base "The Island" map. The second, [GAMINGNOW.NET] Ark Scorched Earth is the brand new paid DLC map & associated content released in early September as a companion to the Ark Prime server. As both are setup and running as a closed cluster players who have access to the new DLC have the option of starting on this new map and immediately reaping the benefits and dangers of this desert world (can anyone say FLAMETHROWER??!!). Furthermore, for the first time players on either server can transfer themselves, carried items, dinosaurs and other materials to and from either server via a transfer system used at the Obelisks and loot crates. The third, The Center map is accessible from either of the first two servers and is billed as Monster Island - a place where ULF's roam the wilds and the easiest place for players to gain element and engrams for Tek tier crafting. However, due to recent changes in Ark gameplay (Massive flyer nerf) day to day Ark activities on these servers has stalled somewhat, which has prompted us to open a brand new server featuring a different style of gameplay. Connection Specifics Updated! New [GAMINGNOW.NET] Survival+ RP PvPvE Shigo Islands server! A new server has been released running adjacent to our existing servers. This new server runs the Survival+ mod on the Shigo Islands map and introduced a completely different gameplay experience to traditional Ark. For starters, the available engrams is much different from vanilla Ark and you will find yourself playing in a low tech world where automatic rifles and C4 does not exist. Instead you'll initially have access to stone and bronze age technology that improves as you level up and expand your capability with new RP professions that encourage grouping up and working together to not only survive but create an incredibly detailed and involved community experience where a real working economy exists. For the first time, you can actually play as professional trader, farmer, smith, mason, carpenter, hunter, alchemist or even barkeep! That's not to say it's all cake baking and cuddles, the world out there is harsh and unforgiving and since the mod restricts what you can tame and how you can tame it day to day survival is still a dicey prospect and lets not forget the ever present threat or raiders ... Long and short is this mod breaths a breath of fresh air into Ark, especially since the recent major nerfs to the vanilla game turned many away in frustration. We hope that this new game style on this new server offers you a familiar yet different type of Ark experience. For more info on this mod, please see the Steam mod page at http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=829467257. To play right now, click the banner below. [GAMINGNOW.NET] Ark Prime & Scorcher Earth Servers There are several ways you can connect to either the Ark Prime or Ark Scorched Earth servers but the easiest of which is to click on the launch links below. You can manually browser the [GAMINGNOW.NET] Ark Prime server via the Join Menu in the Ark client or manually add the IP address (62.138.7.234:7777) via the Steam Servers manager. You can manually browser the [GAMINGNOW.NET] Ark Scorched Earth server via the Join Menu in the Ark client or manually add the IP address (62.138.7.234:7779) via the Steam Servers manager. Cluster Specific Notes Clustering servers is a very new innovation from Studio Wildcard that allows servers setup in a very specific manner to allow cross connectivity between different versions of the Ark map running under the same ruleset. This allows players to transfer their characters from one server to another and take with them the clothes on their back, anything carried in their inventory as well as upload dinosaur pets and items which can be recovered once the character "Transfers (rather than uploads) to the other linked server. The process appears to be mostly painless but currently has an (un)intended after effect which players should be aware of. When you transfer your character (say from Ark Prime to Scorched Earth) your character is effectively moved to the new server along with anything uploaded. This creates a space on the original server for another character to be created by that player. While this may be handy for those wishing to periodically log in on the original server and see how things are going there, that character will be overwritten when the original transfers back. Conversely, if the second character accidently transfers over to the server where the original character had previously gone to the original character will be overwritten by the newer one - clearly an undesirable effect. Ideally the system needs to be able to block the creation of new characters while one exists in the cluster so clones and accidental overwriting of primary characters doesn't occur. However, until that time we suggest that people who move from one place to another try and discipline themselves into only loading up the server they are currently playing on and not create a new character on the former server. As there is no way to recover individual characters from the cluster anyone that accidently overwrites themselves will be well and truly fudged. At best we may be able to award players the xp value of their lost characters but we don't have the capacity to replace any lost items or pets as there is no way to verify their previous existence. Server Configuration Specifics Both servers continues to run with an extended day / night cycle as well as the following additional configuration changes :- Food and water rate decay reduced to 0.75% of default (You go longer without needing food or water). Corpses decay at a much slower rate. Drop items decay much more slowly (Eggs, poop, inventory items etc stay in the world for a lot longer). Defensive items used to damage tamed pets will also damage wild dinos. This means wooded and metal spikes will hurt native wildlife and not just player tames. Alpha versions of the raptor and carno enabled. Alpha Rex is currently disabled but will likely return in the future. The Gigantosaurus is a non tamable creature due to it's overwhelming power. There are no tamed Gigas on the Ark. Wild Gigas still roam the land in various places. During extensive play testing over the last few months we have refined a variety of config changes in order to promote a more cooperative mindset while still allowing the solo player an opportunity to survive and thrive on the Ark. Changes to the food and water decay rate were introduced to balance with the much longer day / night cycle as an aid to early game exploration and resource gathering. Likewise, changes to both the corpse and drop item decay rate were introduced to give players (especially solo players) more breathing room on their hunts, farming and resource collections. The benefit of this is felt most strongly in early game where players are much more vulnerable and restricted in their ability to harvest meat and eggs for kibble production. It also means the production of fertilizer for farming and static plant x defences is much more efficient for those who don't have access to dung beetles in the dangerous caves. Enabling planted spike defences to damage wild dinos as well as pets also allows low level tribes to protect themselves easier from roaming mobs when moving inland and away from the relative safety of the coast. It also allows for some strategic higher level mob kiting for that all important prime meat. Disabling taming of the Giga is the only way to prevent larger, more advanced tribes from being able to effortlessly crush smaller opponents without breaking a sweat. When the Giga is properly balanced by Studio Wildcard it will no doubt be allowable once again. Keeping wild Gigas on the Ark is a way to remind you that even when you're at the top of the player food chain theres still something out there that will make you it's bitch. Server Gameplay Ruleset The GamingNow Ark servers are running in an PvPvE setup. This means it is permissible through game mechanics for individuals and tribes to openly attack eachother on sight if they so desire. There are no mechanics in place to prevent any form of PvP whether it be against a person, pet or structure with the exception of an offline raiding protection system which comes into play 15 minutes after the last active tribe member has logged off. Once the timer expires all structures and pets belonging to the tribe in question become invulnerable to damage until a tribe member logs in again, helping to prevent offline raiding. As a balance to this we have also enabled the ability for the server to automatically destroy abandoned structures after a pre set time period of inactivity from the missing tribe. Lower level structures will become available for demolition sooner than more advanced structures. While there are no enforced gameplay rules, we would like to encourage players to spread out on the Ark in similar sized tribes instead of just having a handful of larger tribes dominating. We find it's more interesting if there are a lot of different tribes in game and not just a couple of Alphas dominating huge swathes of the map. We'd also like to suggest avoiding catastrophic raids on enemy / neutral settlements as this tends to push people away from the game when everything they have been working towards is wiped out overnight while they are sleeping. We won't stop it, of course - that's for players to do. We whole heartedly support revenge attacks.  Admins There is only one currently active player admin on the Ark (MrBlades) and you can contact him via the GamingNow websites messaging system or via the forums. As a rule, admins only activate admin mode when there is a need to send a global broadcast to announce server downtime but in the name of transparency admin logging is enabled so any admin commands used in play will be seen by online players. Admins will not interfere with day to day game issues or complaints regarding other players conduct except in the most extreme cases. Admins will not replace lost items resulting from alpha game play glitches but may (if possible) help recover them. Admins are also players and will most likely do the same sort of things to you that other players may do. This isn't admin abuse so take your beating like a man and beat them back.
